How can you say no? Top dmen get 9 mil these days. He got a little more than half that for being a top 4 dman. I dont understand how ppl complain about every single contract. Why you assume these players would sign for less and if you dont...where are you gonna get players if you arent willing to overpay like everyone has to for players anyways. We dont have a nice city or favourable taxes or anything in our favour yet so many ppl want steals and contracts that they agree with. I watch every game and imo (and other logical ppl ..TwoPiece) DD is the best dman in our zone. No before you ask i dont love all the decisions but if ppl are really complaining about sheahan dekeyser abby nielsen then I have nothing to say to you because your POV makes no sense to me. They are never just gonna fill out the roster with kids because fans dont like the price for players lol if they are good they will earn a spot (ala larkin) and the 800k ott will get buried. This contract is fine and fair

6 if you want him thats what you pay. 7 9 10 hind sight is 2020 so not relevant. Disagree with 3 and 4 but then 1 and 2 are just redundant. Cant use old to compare new contracts

None of this is relevant to them being bad contracts. Replaceable players were given long term deals. Players past their primes were given long term deals. Star players were given deals that circumvented the cap thus recapture penalties were introduced. Stop being a Holland truther.

Reminds me of the contract the Devils gave Zajac. Zajac isnt a $5.75 mil player, but he gets the job done, does what needs to be done, he practically does everything but put up points. It works for the Devils. Maybe this kid does what Detroit needs and it just works.

Just for context, there are 43 defenseman set to have a cap hit of at least $5 million next year, including DeKeyser. That suggests that, if you're going to offer a D-man $5 million, you should probably be expecting to get at least a solid No. 2.

DDK is not, and probably never will be, a solid No. 2, so I don't really see any way he lives up to this deal. He's not a terrible D-man by any stretch and I think the fancystats underrate him slightly, but at best we're talking about a utility second-pair guy who can give you respectable-if-unspectacular performance in all situations.

I would have been much more comfortable with something like 3-4 years at $4 million, which might still have been a bit of an overpayment but more of a defensible bet.

Dekeyser has been relatively bailed out by having a positive relative sv%. He does not have a strong impact on shot attempts and he generates very little offense. He is a solid #4 that should have gotten 4yrs at 3.5-4m per

I basically agree with this assessment, although I would maybe rank his offensive potential somewhat above "very little" (while conceding it isn't very much either).

His zone exits are pretty average

And 27 of his 52 5v5 points in his career were secondary assists. I definitely consider his offense below average.

I'm not all up to date with the advance stats crap, but does it take into account having to skate with a pylon as your partner? I could see Dekes being solid with a good puck moving/offensive partner but for now lets stick him with Smith or Big E.
